You do not write because you have thought. You write to think. The blank note is not a container you pour a finished idea into, it is the instrument you use to find the idea in the first place. Doing that in public, where the note can be linked to and read, changes how carefully you do it.
The useful discomfort
Publishing a half formed note is uncomfortable, and that is exactly why it works. Knowing a note can be read forces it to be legible, and legible to a stranger usually means legible to your future self too. A private note can get away with being a shrug. A public one cannot.
This is only safe because publishing here is explicit. Nothing goes live unless it is flagged for it, so thinking in public is a choice made note by note, not a default that leaks everything. The mechanics of that gate live in tools for thought.
Not the same as performing
Thinking in public is not the same as an audience performance. The garden is not a stage. Compare it with the stream, which rewards performance and immediacy. A garden note can be quiet, unfinished, and still be doing its job.
